Literacy

Watch this video of "Journey". We are going to think about how colour is used in the story to make you notice parts of it.

Once you have watched this video see if you can think about the answers to these questions.

  • Why do you think these things are coloured (red scooter, kite, ball) into full colour in the forest
  • Why are the clouds purple when the girl is on the carpet? What does it indicate might happen next ?
  • Why is the cage golden? Compare it to the background.
  • What colourful things do you notice in her bedroom?
  • Look back at the opening page - boy with purple crayon, purple bird in the sky, bird statue on building. What colour are the traffic lights at the beginning and at the end of the story?
  • How do you travel around the city?
  • Describe the flying machines in detail
  • Why would they want to catch the purple bird?
  • How do you think different characters are feeling before and after capture? – the bird? The girl? The guards?
