Reception Class have had a wonderful day celebrating our love of books for Bookworm Day. In the classroom, we had our very own pirate gazebo (courtesy of Somerset Literacy Network), which was the perfect place to share stories and listen to different readers, including parent volunteers. The children also learnt about how a bookmark works and made their own caterpillar bookmarks to take home, painted pirate sea pictures and explored the book corner during an exciting book treasure hunt.
At the end of the day, their Year 4 buddies read their favourite story from when they were in Reception Class and our youngest children shared their favourite book too!
We hope that the day inspired the Reception Class children to love books and stories as much as we do, as they begin their reading journey through the school. Next week, the children will innovate the story, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ to ‘We’re Going on a Pirate Hunt’….I am sure they will have lots of new ideas now!
